ABOUT THE BAND
Formed in the summer of 2022, TYSK began as a group of like-minded young Ukrainian musicians in the Greater Toronto Area brought together by a shared love of Ukrainian culture and music. Having grown up singing and playing at camps, cottages, and community gatherings, their informal jam sessions in friends’ and parents’ basements quickly evolved into something more.

What started as impromptu get-togethers soon became a tight-knit ensemble with a clear purpose: to celebrate, preserve, and energize Ukrainian music for new generations.

From their first public performance, it was clear — TYSK could not be contained.

Today, TYSK’s repertoire spans patriotic anthems, heartfelt ballads, and high-energy dance music that few can resist. The band has performed locally, nationally, and internationally at festivals, fundraisers, cultural events, and private functions, bringing passion and authenticity to every stage.

Motto: Далі буде TYSK!
(“To be continued…” — because this is only the beginning.)

DANIEL (DANYLO)
LEAD SINGER

Daniel (Danylo) grew up immersed in Ukrainian music and culture within the Greater Toronto Area community. From a young age, he participated in camps, youth organizations, and community gatherings where music was always at the heart of every celebration. It was through these experiences that Daniel developed his love for live performance and for the powerful way music brings people together. Over the years, Daniel began refining his vocals and stage presence, performing at a variety of events ranging from intimate gatherings to large celebrations and festivals. For him, music is more than just performance — it is a way to share energy, emotion, and pride in Ukrainian heritage. Outside of the stage, Daniel remains actively involved in community and professional pursuits, but performing with TYSK allows him to fully combine leadership, creativity, and his passion for Ukrainian culture. Daniel looks forward to many more zabavas, weddings, festivals, and unforgettable performances ahead with his TYSK family.

ANASTASIA
VIOLIN, VOCALS
LEAD SINGER

Anastasia is studying Biomedical Sciences at Toronto Metropolitan University. She loves learning new things, spending time with her family, as well as with the Ukrainian community. Anastasia’s love for music began at an early age with her dancing in the living room to Ukrainian songs recorded on CDs. By the age of 4, Anastasia began taking violin lessons. As she continued to grow, so did her love for music. When Anastasia is not playing the violin or studying, she finds enjoyment in singing at church, going to CYM, and going to zabavas with her friends. Anastasia is always up for a good time, and can’t wait for all the fun performances ahead of her with her Tysk family!

MATTHEW
ACCORDION, KEYS, VOCALS
LEAD SINGER

Matthew Trochanowski has a background in Mechanical Engineering with Management from McMaster University. He enjoys playing golf, tennis, and volleyball, as well as being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. From a very young age, Matthew has been very musically inclined and has always enjoyed listening to and making music. Originally, he began learning both the piano and guitar, however at age 16, he began teaching himself how to play the accordion. In 2022, Matthew’s love and passion for Ukrainian music compelled him to dive deeper into the industry, and as a spontaneous leap of faith, rounded up some of his friends to form what is now Tysk.

HELEN
GUITAR, VOCALS

Helen has always had a passion for music and art, having grown up playing the piano and violin. It was only when she stumbled upon the guitar that she found the perfect instrument for her. Growing up in the Ukrainian community, Helen would bring her guitar everywhere from family gatherings to summer camps. ANDRIYKO
BASS
LEAD SINGER

Andriyko grew up loving Ukrainian music, learning many songs at home, family gatherings and camps. He received his first guitar as a Christmas gift from his grandmother and played double bass in his high school orchestra. Growing up he was a member of Plast and CYM and is a member of the Ukrainian Students Club at York University where he studies history. Andriy particularly loves traveling to the cottage, board games, golfing, and playing tennis. Joining Tysk was an easy decision for Andriy because of his love for Ukrainian music. As a regular zabava enthusiast, Andriy was absolutely thrilled to start a band with some of his best friends. He is looking forward to many more zabavas, weddings, and great times ahead! Будьмо!
